The 2nd Annual Conference of CCUGH

The 2nd Annual Conference of the Chinese Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CCUGH)

Advancing Health Sustainable Development Goals in China and Globally:

Working Together to Meet Challenges

October 14-15, Duke Kunshan University, Kunshan, Jiangsu, China

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which succeeded the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), were established by the United Nations in 2015 as a new development agenda to achieve poverty alleviation and secure the planet by 2030. SDG 3 reads “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” and has 9 targets for health development. These 9 targets address issues including non-communicable diseases (NCDs), tobacco control, road safety, mental health, pollution and universal health coverage, in addition to maternal and child health and infectious diseases.

China has made tremendous progress in achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) over the past decades. However, grand challenges face China as the country works to achieve the health SDGs. As with other developing countries, China is faced with huge burden of NCDs, high smoking rates, lack of road safety policies/laws, wide-spread stigma towards mental issues and insufficient workforce, severe air pollution, food safety problems and lack of response from the health system. In addition, the huge urban-rural development gap and the lagging societal progress compared with the unprecedented economy growth in China compound the challenges. In light of such background, we aim to push the global health field forward in addressing such challenges in innovative and feasible ways. The conference will convene delegates from academia, government, funding agencies, private sectors and other health related organizations from China, US, UK, Asian and African countries, to explore answers in advancing the health SDG achievement through partnerships and collaboration in China and beyond.

CCUGH was established In November 2013 by 10 leading Chinese Universities in Global Health, with the mission to build interdisciplinary collaborations and facilitate the sharing of knowledge among Chinese member universities to address global health challenges. The CCUGH has held its first annual conference at the Peking University Health Science Center. Duke Kunshan University has served as the 2nd Chair Institution since August 2015 and is the principal organizer of the 2nd annual conference.

This conference is open to all who are interested in global health and we sincerely welcome submissions from non-member CCUGH universities who wish to be part of this global health event. For those who would like to submit abstracts on the conference, please refer to “Abstract submission” page.
